BLUE BOTTLE COFFEE KAMAKURA CAFE
BLUE BOTTLE COFFEE HAKATA CAFE
On July 21, 2026, Blue Bottle Coffee Hakata Cafe officially opened its doors.
Located just steps from Hakata Station—the gateway to Japan’s Kyushu region—Hakata Cafe is Blue Bottle Coffee’s second cafe in Kyushu, following Fukuoka Tenjin Cafe.
For centuries, Hakata has flourished as a place where people, goods, and cultures come together. Even today, it is a city where people from all walks of life gather, each enjoying their own rhythm and moments. Inspired by the spirit of Hakata, Hakata Cafe was created around the concept of “Connections That Begin with a Cup.” Through every cup of coffee, we hope to create experiences that gently connect people with one another and with the city itself.
Whether you’re enjoying a quiet moment on your own or spending time with family and friends, stopping by to chat with your favorite barista, or discovering a new city over coffee, Hakata Cafe is designed to accompany the many moments of everyday life—from your morning commute and weekend outings to the beginning or end of a journey. We hope it becomes a place where you can slow down and enjoy each moment, your own way.
In this journal, we’ll take you through the inspiration behind Hakata Cafe’s design, share ideas for experiencing the space, and introduce an exclusive item created to celebrate the opening.
HAKATA CAFE DESIGN
The design concept behind Hakata Cafe is “Connections That Begin with a Cup.” The space was designed by Tatsuya Nishinaga of TEKI DESIGN, the studio behind Blue Bottle Coffee Harajuku Cafe.
Inspired by Fukuoka’s landscape—where rivers, plains, mountains, and the sea have shaped the city’s growth—the cafe is centered around a gently curved coffee bar. At its heart, baristas carefully prepare each cup by hand, while seating naturally unfolds around the counter, inviting guests to gather.
Like the ripples created by a single drop of coffee, the moments shared around the coffee bar gently spread throughout the space, connecting people with one another and with the city of Hakata. That idea lies at the heart of the cafe’s design.
Whether you’re savoring a quiet cup on your own or spending time with family and friends, the space invites you to slow down and enjoy the aromas, sounds, and everyday conversations that naturally unfold around the coffee bar. With every visit, we hope those moments over coffee become meaningful connections that continue to grow.
Throughout Hakata Cafe, the space incorporates the beauty of craftsmanship passed down through generations across Kyushu. Selected tabletops feature custom-made Imari ware created by Hataman Touen, a pottery studio based in Imari, Saga Prefecture. Their matte finish highlights the natural character of the material, while the subtle variations unique to handcrafted ceramics bring a quiet sense of warmth and calm to each coffee moment.
One of the tables also features a discreet Blue Bottle logo. See if you can spot it while enjoying your coffee.
A section of the wall at the back of the cafe, featuring the Blue Bottle logo, is finished with Nao Tesuki Washi—a traditional handmade paper with a history spanning nearly 300 years in Saga Prefecture. From cultivating the kaji trees used as its raw material to forming each sheet by hand, every stage of production takes place in Saga. The natural warmth of the material and the rich texture created through generations of craftsmanship give the wall a distinctive character, revealing subtle changes in expression as the light shifts throughout the day.

A selection of the chairs was also handcrafted by artisans in Fukuoka and Saga, with each piece carefully made by hand. These enduring traditions of craftsmanship, passed down across Kyushu, bring a quiet richness to the time spent in the cafe.
Inspired by the history and landscape of Hakata, and enriched with materials that celebrate Kyushu’s craftsmanship, Hakata Cafe is a place where connections begin with a cup of coffee. We invite you to experience the warmth of this space—and the unique coffee moments that can only be found here.
HAKATA CAFE MENU
At Hakata Cafe, you’ll find thoughtfully crafted food and beverages—from pour over coffee prepared by our baristas one cup at a time to espresso drinks, non-coffee beverages, and seasonal dishes designed to pair beautifully with coffee.
Whether you’re starting your morning, taking a break during your travels, gathering with family or friends for brunch, or enjoying a quiet afternoon, we invite you to make the cafe your own and discover the moments that make Hakata Cafe unique.
Single Origin Cold Brew and Hakata Cafe’s Toast Mentaiko Potato
Whether you’re easing into the morning or taking a well-deserved pause during your travels, our Single Origin Cold Brew is the perfect companion. Carefully brewed in the cafe using seasonally selected single origin coffees sourced from around the world, it highlights the distinct character of each origin with remarkable clarity. The result is a coffee with a silky texture, natural sweetness, and a clean, lingering finish.
We recommend pairing it with Toast Mentaiko Potato, available first at Hakata Cafe. Created under the supervision of food director Moe Soejima, the toast features artisan bread from Okuzoe Bakery in Itoshima, Fukuoka, topped with rich mentaiko cheese cream and smooth mashed potatoes. A finishing sprinkle of shichimi, blended with Japanese pepper and dried citrus peel, adds a bright aromatic lift that beautifully balances the richness of the mentaiko and cheese.
Together, the refreshing clarity of the cold brew and the savory richness of the toast create a satisfying pairing—perfect for a leisurely breakfast or a relaxing break between destinations.
Single Origin Cold Brew and the Complete Brunch Plate
Bathed in soft natural light from the cafe’s expansive windows, Hakata Cafe is an inviting place to linger over a leisurely brunch. The Complete Brunch Plate brings together a vibrant assortment of fresh salad, seasonal grilled vegetables, and a free-range boiled egg, served alongside ciabatta from Okuzoe Bakery in Itoshima, Fukuoka, for a satisfying meal.
Whether you’re catching up with friends over coffee or settling in with a good book, Hakata Cafe offers a space to slow down and enjoy the moment at your own pace.
Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely brunch or taking a quiet break over coffee in the afternoon, our seasonal Waffle Plate with Pineapple & Caramel Cream offers a delightful way to slow down. Freshly baked Liège waffles are served with caramelized fresh pineapple, passion fruit, and a light caramel whipped cream. Finish the dish with a drizzle of passion fruit caramel sauce, adding layers of rich sweetness balanced by a bright, refreshing finish.
From left: Vanilla Bean Shakerato and Cold Shaken Espresso
We also recommend experiencing our new Kyoto-Style Espresso through two signature iced drinks: the Vanilla Bean Shakerato and Cold Shaken Espresso.
Inspired by Kyoto’s tradition of slow water-drip coffee, Kyoto-Style Espresso is a new approach to espresso crafted especially for iced beverages. Rather than relying on pressure or heat, it is brewed over time to draw out the coffee’s natural sweetness and nuanced flavors. Prepared fresh in the cafe each day, every drink is finished to order as our baristas shake each espresso by hand at the coffee bar.
The Vanilla Bean Shakerato layers floral vanilla bean syrup with subtle stone fruit notes over Kyoto-Style Espresso and milk, creating a beautifully balanced cup with natural sweetness. For those who want to experience Kyoto-Style Espresso in its purest expression, the Cold Shaken Espresso highlights its delicate sweetness and remarkably smooth character. Both drinks are finished with silky foam, striking layers, and a clean sweetness that lets the coffee itself shine.
Settle in by the window with a good book or enjoy an unhurried conversation with someone special. With coffee and something sweet in hand, we invite you to slow down and savor the welcoming atmosphere of Hakata Cafe.

To celebrate the opening of Hakata Cafe, we’ve created the Rattan Mug, available exclusively at Hakata Cafe and our Official Online Store. Developed in collaboration with GLOCAL STANDARD PRODUCTS and its TSUBAME series—known for creating timeless products under the philosophy of “unchanging and universal”—the mug is designed to become a lasting companion for your daily coffee ritual.
